Why upgrade XP 2.0 mechanical brakes to hydraulic
The XP 2.0 ships with mechanical disc brakes — adequate for flat-pavement commuting, but mechanical pads on a 65 lb fat-tire bike fade fast on long descents, and spongy lever feel returns within months as cables stretch. Hydraulic gives you consistent feel through 1,500+ miles, less hand fatigue on long rides, better modulation, and no cable adjustment. For XP 2.0 owners who ride hilly terrain, carry cargo on the rear rack, or tow a Cabin trailer, this is the single biggest safety improvement available. It's the same hydraulic standard Lectric ships on the XPremium and Cabin from the factory.
What's in the box
- Front hydraulic caliper + pre-bled line
- Rear hydraulic caliper + pre-bled line
- Front and rear brake levers with electric power-off (model-matched motor cutoff connector — plug-and-play with the XP 2.0 motor harness)
- Sintered metallic brake pads (front + rear)
- Mounting hardware
Pre-bled means no DOT-fluid bleeding required at home — connect the lines to the levers and ride. The kit ships fully assembled, with 2-piston calipers and motor inhibitor sensors built into the levers.
Compatibility — built specifically for the XP 2.0
This kit is dimensioned for the XP 2.0 frame and fork — not a universal kit. Lectric's motor cutoff plug standard is shared across the XP family (XP 1.0/2.0/3.0), but caliper-to-fork bracket spacing differs between model years, which is why universal aftermarket kits often need spacer shims. AMPERBIKE's kit is plug-and-play. If you have an XP 3.0 or XP Lite, use the matching variant: XP 3.0 hydraulic brake kit or XP Lite 1.0 hydraulic brake kit. For a Cabin, XPedition, or XPeak, see the XPedition 2.0 kit or XPeak 2.0 kit.
Installation — 60 minutes, basic shop tools
You'll need Allen keys (4mm, 5mm, 6mm), a 10mm wrench, and side cutters for old cable removal. No bleeding required — the kit ships pre-bled. Remove the old mechanical brakes, mount the new calipers to the existing IS-mount fork tabs, connect the hydraulic lines to the levers, plug the motor cutoff connector into the XP 2.0 harness, then bed-in with 10 progressive stops from 15 mph. Same procedure as the XP 3.0 kit — most installers finish in under an hour. If you've never bled hydraulic brakes, this kit is the right starting point because there's no bleeding step.
Performance gains — what to actually expect
Honest numbers: roughly 30-40% shorter stopping distance from 20 mph versus OEM mechanical, more pronounced on the heavier XP 2.0 than on lighter Lectric models. Consistent lever feel through 1,500+ miles between pad replacements, versus around 600 miles on stock mechanical pads. No more cable stretch every couple of months. The difference is most noticeable when carrying cargo on the rear rack or descending on bike paths. The included sintered pads outlast the OEM organic pads roughly 2:1.
Replacement parts and service intervals
The included sintered pads will need replacement around 1,500-2,000 miles. When that time comes, order the matched Lectric XP 2.0 brake pads (10-pair quiet-resin kit) — same pad shape, quieter compound for daily commuting. For hydraulic brake fluid replacement (every 2 years), consult the Lectric eBike Complete Parts Guide for the recommended brake fluid spec.
Warranty + AMPERBIKE expert support
